SMI recognizes how difficult it is to save up money to go to school or the extraordinary circumstances that surrounds one's life making it hard for  individuals to become eligible for scholarships, that is why SMI is committed to creating opportunities for people to gain access to free education.

Who can avail SMI scholarships

​

Companies, Industry Practitioners, and Professionals are those individuals who are currently employed under any industry classified by TESDA to have an existing and applicable Training Regulation, practitioners are individuals who poses a degree of skill and proficiency in their trade but lack the formalization of their education or simply do not have the corresponding National Certificate as evidence of their expertise.

Scholars or Beneficiaries are those individuals who have been identified as recipients of a scholarship grant by either a public or private entity through a specific project which requires that they undergo Technical-Vocational Education and Training

 

What are the different SMI scholarship sources

Department of Education (DEPED) Projects

Joint Delivery Voucher Program for Senior High School Technical-Vocational Livelihood Specializations (JDVP-TVL) The project aims to promote partnerships between DepEd and qualified institutions and acknowledges the complementary roles of public and private educational institutions, under this program, the invaluable contribution that the private schools have made will make to education and the complementary roles of public and private educational institutions are recognized towards the fulfillment of the mandate of the state to promote and make quality education accessible to all Filipino citizens.

 

The JDVP-TVL is designed to optimize Technical-Vocational Learning by allowing Senior High School students enrolled in public schools to avail of vouchers and take their TVL specialization in eligible partner institutions from either private or non-DepEd public Senior High Schools as well as Technical-Vocational Institutions, offering their desired specializations.

 

Who can qualify for the program:

 

All Grade 12 Students enrolled in DepEd Public Senior High Schools under the Technical-Vocational Learning Track who will be allowed to take their TVL specialization subjects in eligible private or non-DepEd public Senior High School and Private TVIs for School Year 2018-2019.

Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) Projects

Modified Conditional Cash Transfer Program (MCCT) The project aims to contribute to the reduction of children in the streets as well as respond to the development needs of Children and Families in Need of Special Protection through the provision of cash grants for education and health needs under the umbrella program of the Pantawid Pamilyang Pilipino Program (4Ps). It hopes to achieve the following specific objectives:
 

1. To bring back children from the streets to more suitable, decent and permanent homes.

2. Ensure attendance in school and education and improve access through Alternative Delivery Mode and other special learning modes for children of Families in Need of Special Protection

3. Ensure health and nutrition needs of Families in Need of Special Protection.

4. To mainstream Families in Need of Special Protection for normal psycho -social functioning through Pantawid Pamilya Program.

Modified Conditional Cash Transfer for Indigenous People (MCCT-IP) The project aims to

Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP) is a community-based capacity building program that seeks to improve the program participants’ socioeconomic status.  SLP is implemented through a two-track program. The first track, the Micro-enterprise Development Track, supports micro-enterprises in becoming organizationally and economically viable. Meanwhile, the second track, the Employment Facilitation Track, assists participants to access appropriate employment opportunities.

Both tracks are executed based on the Community-Driven Enterprise Development (CDED) approach, which equips program participants to actively contribute to production and labor markets by looking at available resources and accessible markets. The CDED approach promotes the Local Economic Development (LED) strategy and Value Chain Production of each community.

The Sustainable Livelihood Program participants should meet the following requirements:

​

1. Should belong to poor households as identified through the National Household Targeting System for Poverty Reduction (NHTS-PR), prioritizing Pantawid Pamilya program participants and other qualified poor households not included in the NHTS-PR

2. Should at least be 18 years of age for the Employment Facilitation Track and at least 16 years of age for the Micro-enterprise Development Track after submission of a written consent from a legal parent or guardian

3. For the Micro-enterprise Development Track, should be a beneficiary of DSWD’s social protection programs and services who has limited or no access to formal credit facilities (micro-financing institutions, banks, cooperatives, formal lending investors, pawnshops, and other formally registered credit entities)

4. For the Employment Facilitation Track, should be a beneficiary of DSWD’s social protection programs and services with labor skills but with no formal employment or is unemployed

5. Preferably be a beneficiary of the Pantawid Pamilya Pilipino Program for at least 2 years wherein the Social Welfare Indicators (SWI) show a readiness for engagement in livelihoods

Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) Projects

Skills for Employment Scholarship Program (SESP) The project aims to the Skills-for-Employment Scholarship Program is a scholarship program offered by OWWA for the land-based and sea-based OWWA-member Overseas Filipino Workers (OFWs) and their beneficiaries.  Through this program, member-OFWs and beneficiaries can avail of six months to two years vocational and technical courses at any accredited TESDA training centers.

This program is intended for those OFWs and their beneficiaries who wish to pursue technical vocational courses. The OWWA Skills for Employment Scholarship Program was made possible through the coordination of Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA). It is extended to OFWs, who are active OWWA members, or their dependents, to cover the expenses of taking up tech-voc courses accredited by TESDA in any training course within their respective regions.

Under the scholarship, the applicant is granted to the actual cost of training fee, with a maximum of P14,500.00 per course regardless of the duration of the training program. In the events the training fee for the applicants chosen course is above the said amount, the applicant shall bear the excess cost.

OFWs who are active members of OWWA and their dependents are eligible to avail of the program with a financial assistance of P14,500.00. The applicant may choose his/her training course from the list of OWWA recognized training providers where he/she intends to enroll.

The applicant must be:

An active member of OWWA or a dependent of an active OWWA member. Beneficiaries shall be limited to:

 

For Active Members of OWWA:

1. Vacationing OFWs (Land-based or sea-based)

2. Finished contract workers but are still active members of OWWA

 

For Married OFWs:

1. Spouse

2. Child (20 years old and below; not currently enrolled)

 

For Single OFWs:

1. Sister or brother (20 years old and below; not currently enrolled)

2. Beneficiaries shall be a (1) Filipino Citizen and (2) at least elementary graduate

Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA) Projects
 

Private Education and School Financial Assistance (PESFA) Program has been established through Section 8 of Republic Act No. 8545, otherwise known as the Expanded Government Assistance to Students and Teachers in Private Education (GASTPE) Act. The program aims to extend financial assistance to marginalized but deserving students in technical-vocational education and training (TVET) courses and to assist private institutions in their development efforts by assuring a steady supply of enrollees to their course offerings.
 

For 2017, PESFA shall be implemented in two (2) modalities and shall be governed by these guidelines. One modality is the implementation of bundled qualifications specifically to support the Manufacturing Resurgence Program (MRP) objectives and to support rapid, inclusive and sustained economic growth through course offerings in priority industries and key employment generator. 
 

The objective of the MRP is to rebuild the existing capacity of industries, strengthen new ones and maintain the competitiveness of industries with comparative advantage. The availability of competent and productive labor, trained to industry standards, supports the competitiveness of Philippine manufacturing industry.

The second modality is the regular PESFA implementation of single or one (1) qualification basis.

Special Training for Employment (STEP) Program is a community-based training program that seeks to address the specific skills needs of the communities and promote employment, through entrepreneurial, self-employment, and service-oriented activities.

STEP is TESDA's response to address poverty in the informal sector by providing the disadvantaged sector training and employment through Technical-Vocational Education and Training for Social Equity, addressing the Technical-Vocational Education and Training requirements of the informal sector. Under STEP, the training programs are generally short-term and shall use the cluster of units of competencies prescribed in the Training Regulations (TRs) promulgated by TESDA, wherever applicable.

After training, the scholars are given allowance while on training and starter tool-kits. The qualifications of the target clients are less rigid than the clients for TWSP. The clients are identified in the 17-point Reform Agenda of TESDA mainly belonging to the disadvantaged sectors — workers in the informal sector, senior citizens, victims of calamities and disasters, Indigenous Peoples and cultural communities, among others.

Training for Work Scholarship Program (TWSP) Seeks to support rapid, inclusive and sustained economic growth through course offerings in priority industries and key employment generators such as agrifishery/agri-business/agro-industrial, tourism, information technology-business process management (lT-BPM), semi-conductor and electronics, automotive, other priority manufacturing industries, logistics, general infrastructure, and new and emerging sectors. The program is addressing poverty reduction through Technical-Vocational Education and Training for Global Competitiveness and WET for Job Readiness.
